Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop designed to help people gain both followers and friends by answering a question so we can get to know a little about each other.
This week's question:
Back to school. Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you’ll be teaching this semester.
I likely wouldn't pick the "old" classics. I remember enjoying Something Wicked This Way Comes my freshman year of high school so I'd probably include it. I'd also include My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, because it would be a good book to get some actual debate about serious issues going on, ones that are relevant today rather than a hundred or two-hundred years ago. The last one on my list of ones I know I'd do would be The Descent of Alette. I read it in one of my many literary analysis classes in college and it's... bizarre. Just for something to throw them off!
Haven't read any of those, but I think a class of more recent literature about contemporary issues is a great idea! :D Old follower here.
ReplyDeleteMy FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday!
Oh, My Sister's Keeper! Why didnt I think of that! I remember an old friend being assigned that in his high school lit class ages ago, too! Great list!

Hopping through. I've only read one Picoult book. I've always meant to read My Sister's Keeper.

I wouldn't pick the old classics either, I hated that in high school. Great list, I need to read some Picoult books.

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES is one of Ray Bradbury's books that I haven't read. It sounds good from the description, but I wasn't really a fan of his.

Joana Jodi Picoult's books would be fantastic for debate for high school english classes, I'd probably choose 19 minutes because it's about a high school shooting.

Some of the most interesting book discussions I've ever had (in college) came from reading "Written On the Body" by Jeanette Winterson.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful, lyrical book about love. The catch is that you don't know whether the narrator is a man or a woman - and s/he never gives it away! There were students who were CONVINCED it was a female narrator, and others who were CERTAIN it was a male speaker. And we battled! Going through, citing specific examples that proved our convictions. But for every example that pointed one way, there was another that pointed the other. Simply fantastic.
