Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read to help book bloggers get to know each other and spread the following love around.  Each week there's a question or activity.

Question of the Week: Before blogging (dark times people!) how would you find out about new books or did you?

Honestly?  I mostly just trawled my local library for books that they got in new.  They were pretty good at getting new ones in, at least from authors they already carried, and even if the book wasn't new (as in it came out within the last month) it was new to me.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, with the aim to increase blog followers and let us get to know each other.  Each week we're given a question or an activity.

This week's question:

Are there any book to movie adaptations where you think the movie is better than the book?

This is actually an easy one for me.  The one that comes straight to mind is Coraline.  You might call me biased since I saw the movie first, but I'm being honest here.  The movie was extremely faithful in its adaptation, but it still expanded upon the story and gave you more than the book did, so I have to say I like the movie better for that reason.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read to help book bloggers gain followers and make friends.  Each week we're given a question or an activity to do.  And this week, yours truly is one of the featured bloggers!

This week's activity:

Reading Nook Tour: Give us a tour of your favorite reading spots.

At home I really only have two places where I can sit down and read.

The love seat in my living room.

And my bed.  Which, as you can see, frequently gets shanghai'd by cats.  In the warmer months I go outside; my parents set up a screen house beside their driveway along with some benches and a table, so I can get a meal and just stay out there for hours.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, focused on helping people gain followers and get to know each other.  Each week we're given a question or activity!

This week's question:

What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid? If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?

By far, my favorite book as a kid was Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Other Coconutty Songs

I had my older sister read it to me so many times that I had it memorized!  She also likes to tell me how much I enjoyed Eloise at the Plaza, but I don't really remember that one, oops.  Other ones I liked as a kid were those large, hardback picture books that were based off Disney movies.  My grandmother had a ton of them so I'd read them whenever I went to stay with her.

I don't have kids of my own, but I've been sure to spoil my nephew, who's at that age (he just entered school).  I've gotten him Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom, Madeline and The Complete Adventures of Curious George.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read with the goal of gaining followers and friends!  Each week you answer a question.  This week's:

Bookshelf Tour. Give us a tour of your bookshelf.

The lighting got weird after the first picture and suddenly everything was YELLOW but yeah, here is the top shelf, aka where my actual books go including but not limited to the ones I got in college during my creative writing degree and were signed because the author visited and I couldn't sell them back heh.

This is the middle shelf where my manga starts.  You may recognize the Hyrule Historia from another post.  That makeup brush in the corner is a lie considering I don't wear makeup, though.

My smaller manga on the bottom shelf (the ones above it are all over-sized and have dust jackets) as well as some light novels and more random stuff.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  Each week you answer a question, with the goal of gaining followers and making friends!

This week's question:

Book Selfie! Take a pic with your current read.

My current read is actually an e-book, and I don't have a Kindle or whatever that I could take a picture of myself with sooooo you get a book I'm constantly thumbing through at random:

An entire play-by-play of the Legend of Zelda series, including a history of Hyrule and lots and lots of concept sketches for each game.  I love it.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, with the aim to gain followers and friends!

This week's question:

Share something you’ve learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the last month.

I'm forever learning and relearning that I need to go back and make sure the formatting on my posts is exactly how I want it to be.  Other than that, I've been learning mostly about how to direct traffic to my blog so I can increase the readership, and about alternate follow methods like Blogluvin.  Oh how behind I am!  I'll get a hang of the readership aspect of this someday, this I swear.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop designed to help people gain both followers and friends by answering a question so we can get to know a little about each other.

This week's question:

Back to school. Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you’ll be teaching this semester.

I likely wouldn't pick the "old" classics.  I remember enjoying Something Wicked This Way Comes my freshman year of high school so I'd probably include it.  I'd also include My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, because it would be a good book to get some actual debate about serious issues going on, ones that are relevant today rather than a hundred or two-hundred years ago.  The last one on my list of ones I know I'd do would be The Descent of Alette.  I read it in one of my many literary analysis classes in college and it's... bizarre.  Just for something to throw them off!

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  The point of the meme is to give blogs more exposure and followers, while helping us get to know each other!

This week's question:

How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

I personally power through unless I really, really don't like it.  I don't like to leave a book unread, and I do try avoid books that I obviously won't like so there is some filter for my reading list.  But, my reviews don't remain completely positive so it's not like my reputation as a reader or book reviewer will suffer if I have to say some things about a book I didn't like.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a blogging meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, for the purpose of increasing follower and view counts, as well as getting to know each other!

This week's question:

Activity! Hopefully warm weather for most of us is here soon…so tell us about your favorite outdoor reading spot. Or take a picture.

During warmer weather, my mother and stepfather set up a screen house in our driveway (a very big driveway).  They put benches and chairs in it, along with a table and a candle.  Given that we live outside town, it's rather relaxing to just go out there and prop my feet up for a few hours.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly book meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, with the goal of increasing followers and letting book bloggers get to know each other.

This week's question:

What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

I try not to read other book reviews unless they're by friends, at least if I plan to read the book.  It kind of tends to tilt my opinion one way or the other.  However, a book I reviewed when I first made this blog, Starseed, only had one other negative review and the rest were raving about what a treasure it was.  If you've read the review, you can understand why I'd wonder about their taste.  I found absolutely no redeeming qualities in the thing!  Ah well.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly blogging meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  It's designed to help people network and gain followers, as well as let us get to know each other a little better!

This week's question:

Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you’ve done, that as you gained more experience you were like — oops?

The blogs I used to run were never very popular because I'm kind of... too shy to promote myself to others? I suppose that would be a blogger sin: not putting yourself out there.  I'm still learning the ins and outs of book blogging so I hope I'm not doing anything bad right now!  Although I wouldn't be surprised if I was.

Feature and Follow Friday!

Feature and Follow Friday is a blog event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read to help people gain followers and to just have fun discussion.

This weeks Question:

We always talk about books that WE want. Let’s turn it on its head. What books have you given other people lately?

I actually haven't had the chance to recommend or give books lately.  However my sister has let me borrow numbers two and three in the series The Guardians (the first of which, Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King I reviewed on this blog.  Then again, I kind of "give" a book to someone every time they read a review of mine, right?  At least a positive review.

Feature and Follow Friday #2

Feature and Follow Friday is a meme hosted by Alison Can Read and Parajunkee to help bloggers gain followers and and meet new people!

This week's question:

Q: Happy Mardi Gras! If they were throwing the HOTTEST books off of a Mardi Gras float -- what would you do to have them throw to you…?

Honestly I'd just climb right up onto the float and take what I want.  Nobody's gonna get between me and a good book :I

Feature and Follow Friday!

So I'm trying this!  Might as well do something with this blog other than ranting and posting book reviews, right?  This blog hop is hosted by Parajunkee.

And this weeks question?

What is the first thing you would do if you woke up to find yourself in your favorite book?

My favorite book is Ella Enchanted!  It seems a little weird given my contemporary tastes for the most part, but there's just something about it that brings me back again and again.  If I found myself in the world of Ella and Char, to be honest I'd probably end up hurting myself.  I'd run down the street, looking at everything and taking it all in, and probably knock into someone or fall flat on my face.  But it's not as dangerous as some fantasy worlds, so I would enjoy it.
